Water Advocacy Programme
The European Solidarity Weeks for Water
The European Solidarity Week for Water is about European water management stakeholders getting together to share their experience and know-how, thus providing a link between all water partners at local, regional, national and international levels. Its objective is to intensify solidarity in water management.
The European Solidarity Week for Water is organized each 2 or 3 years. 60 to 100 participants get together during four days to discuss specific water-related issues. Each programme traditionally includes:
- half-day workshops based on case studies
- round-table conferences
- on-site visits
- artistic and cultural activities (film festivals, photo exhibitions...)
To this day, three editions of the European Solidarity Week for Water have been organized:
- 1st edition in Strasbourg (France) in 2005, with the following theme: "Water in Europe: decentralization, participation and solidarity"
- 2nd edition in Ivancea (Moldova) in 2007: "Appropriate sanitation for human, economic, social and sustainable development"
- 3rd edition in Strasbourg (France) in 2010: "The wall has come down, but the gap is getting wider...".
